Phablets Crushing the Mobile-Device Market

Phablets Crushing the Mobile-Device Market

Devices do a lot to improve our lives but us average Americans with our manifold gadgetsnow have a lot to keep track of. The laptops that are still a common sight in offices and living rooms, the phones that are our lifelines, the tablets we fall asleep with, the fitness trackers that keep us healthy and all the other connected devices we can't survive without. So is it any wonder that when an opportunity to combine two or even more devices into a single gadget comes along, we embrace it? That's the phablet.

Nowadays the family without at least one mobile device is something of an anathema. Most individuals have at least one and probably more considering that studies show 42% of American adults own tablets and 58% of American adults have a smartphone. Mobile is hot, with smartphones and tablets now the default second screen used for everything from browsing to gaming to shopping and even watching TV. At this point there's hardly any reason for the average person to sit down in front of a computer or television for dedicated screen time. We have computers right in our pockets, which means everything we used to do at a desk we now do sprawled on the couch or running on the treadmill or standing in the grocery store queue. If we don't order our groceries online, that is.

Phablets - notice the neat portmanteau of the words phone and tablet - occupy the space between smaller smartphones and the largest tablets. Increasingly, they're also edging into fitness tracking and life tracking territory with sensors that measure nearly everything about yourself you could possibly want to quantify. With carriers like T-Mobile offering phablet deals like free 4G LTE data and contract-free service that make upgrading palatable, people are switching to phablets in droves.

Data from apps analytics firm Flurry shows the demand for big phones is twice as large as it was in 2013 and more than twice as many Android devices are large-screened smartphones this year.Flurry also found that bigger devices get more play, which could explain Apple's decision to size up the iPhone with the newly released 6 Plus.

These phones on steroids outsold both laptops and tablets in Asia in 2013, and the US couldbe next if the 'bigger is better' trend continues.Tom Mainelli, program vice president for devices and displays at IDC, told Tech Times that the phablet's ability to do double dutymay just be causing people to question the utility of tablets. And research firm Juniper predicted that phablet sales will rise a whopping 600% in the next four years. Which makes sense, considering that most consumers seem to gravitate toward 7-inch tablets, with 10-inch tablets struggling to keep up and more smartphone manufacturers moving toward the 7-inch sweet spot.

Can a couple of inches really change the tech landscape so dramatically? Many experts and analysts are saying yes. The rise of the phablet could just mean the death of the tablet within the next few years or - more likely - an increasingly blurred line between what is and isn't a phone.

The phablet revolution is important for eCommerce sellers to take note because there is now another screen to focus on when it comes to designing and implementing marketing and advertising materials. The more screens that consumers are able to shop from, the more sales will increase. It is very important to have dynamically-serving websites that are easily assessable across all platforms and screen sizes. What is your business doing to make sure its website is easily stoppable across all devices?

Don’t Overpay for Mobile Traffic Following These Tips

Don’t Overpay for Mobile Traffic Following These Tips
Many mobile plans that providers offer have restrictions on the amount of data loaded from the Internet, but even if you have an unlimited data plan, the provider can adjust the speed of data transmission after exceeding a certain limit of data got.

Smartphone have to download more data ‘cause many applications use the Internet, not mentioning social networking, media resources, web services and e-mail scanning. So how can you properly use tariffs with a restriction on the amount of data transmitted? Here are a few tips to help revise your habits to never overpay.

Control

Before you start trying to reduce the bandwidth consumption it is necessary to clearly understand how much traffic is commonly used. The only way to get this info is to control and monitor traffic usage. That’s how you will find out how much data pass through the phone even when it is not used and only background processes are on.

There are several ways to track data usage on your Android or iOS device. The easiest one is to see the statistics on the device itself. Go to the "Settings" in "Wireless & networks" section and select " Data usage" for the interactive graphic that shows how much data was used during the last month. In addition, it is useful to see the statistics for previous months and the list of applications that use the data to check their consumption.

Besides, some applications provide monthly reports on the use of traffic and consumption analysis.

Avoid video or music streaming

It is probably obvious that audio/video streaming requires significant amount of data, so the less you use it, the more traffic you safe.

Podcasts, music or videos can be downloaded to the device in advance and streamed in an offline mode. When listening to music via the Internet, you can save a little by controlling the bit rate (audio quality).

Check what apps use lots of traffic

Do not forget about other applications that use a lot of traffic: social networks that are constantly updated in the background, games, loading updates and notifications, cloud storages such as Dropbox or Google Drive, seeking to synchronize files. Such apps can use traffic even without notifications.

Forbid apps to get traffic and use Wi-Fi instead

iOS 7 and Android can disable use of data got via the cellular network in certain applications, allowing them to connect only with Wi-Fi connection. It can be rather useful when the apps consume a lot of bandwidth.

If you have access to Wi-Fi its use will save a significant share of mobile traffic. However, the use of Wi-Fi can drain the battery a little faster.

Turn off background apps updates

Android and iOS allow applications to update themselves using mobile connection in the standby mode. And if you have a few dozens of applications, they will be updated almost every day.

Turn off auto sync

In iOS you can take steps to disable synchronization with remote servers using configuration «Settings - Wireless and network - Data usage». In this mode, «Auto sync data» must be disabled. Turn off background updating of applications like Dropbox, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, and Twitter in the menu «Settings - Accounts».

Set a limit on traffic consumption

Androids can set an arbitrary limit on traffic consumption based on the data plan. In this case, when the threshold is reached, the application will use the Internet only via Wi-Fi. It is configured in the menu «Settings - Data usage - Set Mobile Data Limit».

How to Save Money With A Pre-Paid Phone

Save Money With A Pre Paid Phone

Nearing your phone contract’s end and bamboozled with all the offers carrier companies have thrown at you to lure you into switching association? Moreover, are you also considering choosing a prepaid plan to budget your monthly bills? Its true pre paid plans have not had a very good reputation in the past, but they have come of age with progressive times. Now should be a good time to go in for a pre paid option if post paid bills have started to damage your monthly numbers. With giants like Target investing in the pre paid sector, you can foresee escalated quality of services.

Tips to Save Money using Pre-paid Plans:

Plans for Calling within a Family Network

If you are a parent, you would have probably realised by now, that handing them a postpaid plan might just be a very bad idea. Teenagers are probably the heaviest users of every service that carriers roll out. How would you cover their bills on a postpaid plan? The good part about selecting a pre paid setup for your family is that you do not have to sign a contract with the service provider if the use is going to be only within the family.

If you do not use the phone at all for a given length of time, you do not have to pay anything for the period. It is possible to limit yourself to 60 minutes of recharge. Some phones come with a double offer. As long as you keep using the phone, you are entitled to double the time that you have been provided originally. You need to spend only 10 cents per minute in some plans.

Corporate Business Plans

Businesses need an elaborate plan in place in order to accommodate their lengthy discussions through phones. A phone with a data plan is the most desirable in such cases. The choices are many and so confusing. Unlimited data storage can be had for $50 a month. Popular phone companies always come out with some attractive schemes wherein extra talk time is offered for the same amount. Or, they may slash the amount for an existing plan with more number of minutes of talk.

Service Network Coverage Maps

Prepaid service providers have a map of their coverage. You must check the signal strength of each of these companies and choose the best. This way, you do not have to make repeat calls in case your call has not gone through and a charge has been applied for the call nevertheless. Repeat call will cost money again, please remember!

Is it really Beneficial to Switch to a Prepaid Connection?

If you’ve been in the dilemma and haven’t found an answer yourself, analyse the expenses you’ve been making on your post paid plan and how important is it for you to cut corners from your phone expenses. Do you get a loud and clear answer that says IT IS MUCH NEEDED?

Yeah well then, pre-paid upfront costs might pinch a little to start with, but it all makes sense once you see a good dip in your monthly spendings. And in case you don’t see any stark saving and prefer your old setup, you are always free to switch back; you won’t have to bear any penalty. Selling off the previous carrier’s handset would level the difference anyway.

Also, if you’re still of the notion that prepaid experiences only bring about tonnes of frustration, T Mobile’s much famous a-class service combined with the extremely bold step of going no-contract for the pre paid plans can be a potential answer. WIth very lucrative offers on display coming off the carrier’s shelf, the company can completely revolutionize the prepaid sector if they manage to pull it off well.

ZTE’s Firefox OS Smartphone launched in the US and UK eBay

Availability

The gadget initially launched as of now, but eventually will be available internationally. According to a recent Forbes Tech Update in the UK, “Telefonica, the telecoms giant which owns O2, is looking to take on Google’s and Apple’s domination of mobile operating systems by joining up with the Mozilla technology business.” The telecommunication company had expressed an interest in the Firefox OS to be the first to bring the product to their subscribers. They might even opt for an exclusive version of a handset with their carrier branding. If this happens, just the like O2’s launch of the Samsung Galaxy S4, the Firefox handset will be a success.

ZTE Open’s Budget Friendly Specs

Being an entry-level device, the ZTE Open packs a low-end specification which consists of the following: a multi-touch 3.5-inch screen; 512MB internal storage; 256MB of RAM; 1GHz single-core Qualcomm CPU; and 3-megapixel camera. The initial sales showed a sign of success with almost 1000 buyers recorded separately from the US and UK stores.

The Firefox OS Experience

Firefox OS is a mobile operating system which is based entirely on Linux open source technology. The system is built within the HTML 5 environment with web hosted and packaged applications. This makes the OS a lightweight ecosystem which can run smoothly even on devices with lower end specs.

Minor UI difference

The overall look upon boot-up is a similar experience with the Android mobile OS. Users will not feel alienated with the Firefox environment. There are also a home screen, notification center, lock screen and the application’s tray. The only difference when it comes to the user interface is the absence of app widgets.

In Terms of Apps

The software is web-based, but that doesn’t mean that the applications won’t work when offline. There are two major divisions of software development for the ecosystem: packages apps and hosted apps:

Packaged Apps: Downloaded once is a form of “compressed” package that are stored on the device’s hard drive after installation. This includes the default messaging, camera and dialer app.

Hosted Apps: These are hosted by Mozilla’s server. Each time you launch the app, it will be loaded from the server. It’s an app that links to an online source, but is fitted to your mobile screen. (Ex. Facebook, AccuWeather, Twitter).

The OS are developed by Mozilla, the same nonprofit organization that brought the popular web browser. Their applications are developed by a community rather than independent firm, which makes it an inexpensive mobile solution. They partnered up with ZTE to bring the experience with a cheaper device. Are they trying to lure the dedicated Android and Apple fans with their affordable range of mobile devices?
